In the appointment of Mr. Justice Byrnes to be the di rector of the new powerful eco nomic stabilizing program, Tryon feels almost as if one of its own sons had moved into the White House. A former Spartanburg lawyer, congressman, senator and_ Roosevelts legislative leader until his appointment to Supreme Court last year, Jimmy (James Francis) Byrnes, has had wide experience for the task given him. The nation as a whole approves the appointment. With all the farmers, textile workers, mills and various business houses in Spar S>urg county, where he lived so }. Director Byrnes should e a sympathetic understanding of the problems of agriculture, la bor, business and industry. His homefolk believe in him; the President believes in him. We should get a fair administration. All during his political life, Jink my Byrnes, as he is known to thousands of friends in this sec tion, has come to Tryon for short recreation periods or to make a speech. Last year when Spartan burg held “Jimmy Byrnes Day” in celebration of his visit and in ac knowledgement of his achieve ments, the final party, a quiet dinner affair, was held in Tryon. And when the Shangri-La Flag was displayed on Trade street this _Continued m Back Page_ I Blue Ridge To Play Tryon Friday At Harmon Field A furious dash is expected when the hoys from the Blue Ridge School near Hendersonville meet the Tj yon high football team in the first home game of the season, Fridoj, October 9th. Eveiyone is urged to come out to the game, even if he has to walk to save his tires. A good crowd always does a lot to bolster the spirits of the team, and those attending will get their money’s worth of good lootball. Tne game will begin at 3:30 Friday after noon. FORMER BULLETIN BOYS IN THE ARMED FORCES During newspaper week it was recalled by many of tbe large number of prominent men who be gan their careers as newspaper boys. The Bulletin is not old enough for its former carriers to have had time to achieve great success, but it is proud to know that a large number of its earlier carriers have grown into men now fighting in the army or navy for their country. In recalling from memory a few of ’them the number is astonish ing. Among the first were: Jim Brock, Radio Man Thomas Black well, Rufus Gosnell, “Snig” Chap man, D,urham Gosnell, Ensign Williarif Blackwell, Burgan For tune, Edgar Davidson, Marion Williams, Francis Chapman, Sgt. Bruce Byers, Sgt. Hoke Jacobs, Petty Officer Sam Boone Shankle, Mack Foster, Edward Cox, and Richard McClure leaves next week.
